CEO Poker Tour all about networking

7 July 2007

The CEO Poker Tour isn't the WSOP. And it isn't the WPT. But that's ok. It's not supposed to be.

"It's a place where CEOs and junior executives can make a connection and network while playing poker," said Maria Gomez, President of CEO Poker and Executive Games.

And the players take the networking seriously. "Almost 98% of our players are executives," Gomez said. "And nine out of ten players say they meet someone who will help them expand or work with them."

While networking is a critical component of the CEO Poker Tour, it's clear that poker is the main draw.

"There's a natural synergy between business and poker," Gomez explained. "You have to make instant decisions in both all the time. But in poker, you get the instant gratification."

The tournament structures for the tour are player friendly. In the $500 and $1,000 buy-in events, players get $10,000 chips and levels increase every 40 minutes. In the $2,500 buy-in events, players get $15,000 chips and levels increase every hour.

Gomez says the tour is so popular that players actually follow it around from Atlantic City to Las Vegas. The company is also looking to expand into California and Louisiana in the near future.
